What's the best way to water Molly's Potting Mixes?Updated 4 months ago

Your watering schedule can remain the same with our mixes, but the risk of overwatering your plants will be significantly reduced. Molly's Potting Mixes are designed to drain quickly, as overwatering is more challenging to correct than underwatering, and potted plants are prone to root rot. Because our mixes drain quickly, it's crucial to ensure even water distribution throughout the mix.

Water can sometimes channel through just two or three paths in the mix and drain out the bottom without adequately rehydrating the entire mix. To avoid this, we recommend the following methods:

  • Allow the water to pool on top of the mix before it soaks in. This might involve tilting the pot slightly to spread the water or adding more water until it pools on top.

  • Occasionally, place the pot in the sink or shower and let the water flow directly onto the plant and pot from the faucet or showerhead. This also helps clean the leaves, enhancing photosynthesis and overall plant health.

  • Use bottom-watering by setting the pot in a small saucer with 2-3 inches of water and leaving it for 30-35 minutes to fully rehydrate the mix.
